Children of Casa de Paz
I am a professor of Psychology here in Calgary and for the past ten summers have brought teams of 25 eager dedicated students for the month of August to work with the 55 children of Casa de Paz, nestled in the beautiful vineyard filled Guadalupe valley. The orphanage is a sanctuary, an oasis of love and careful family nurture on a 20 hectare working vegetable farm.
A year ago to continue my vision for a Beach house/guest home for returning students and their families I inquired at Calafia and met my new found friends Max and Kathy Katz, who represent the selling of many fine condo and homes along the gold coast of Baja.
Quickly they understood my dream and limited budget and showed me the most beautiful 1500ft² pristine, never-lived-in corner unit with wrap around 80ft of glass windows. I was elated. They carefully cultivated the process between me and the seller, the intricate but very detailed exchange between two countries, and on Oct 15 I became the proud owner of an expansive Baja “beach house”. As the leaves swirl off my trees as autumn is well upon us here in Canada, I dream of spending my summers at Calafia.
And in three weeks arrive to make Christmas with the children of Casa de Paz to deliver their carefully stuffed Christmas stockings and money gifts from some very fine friends, family and Baja Dream team alumni, completing the family circle between my two homes and countries: mi casa es su casa. The weeks following, the mission oak antique furniture collected over the past several summers being delivered from storage at the orphanage, other Calgary families shall arrive weekly to enjoy the sanctuary and beauty of my new Calafia guest house. The hospitality of the surrounding coastal community and the waiting clamor of 55 precious ‘niños’ and ‘niñas’ we have grown to love as our own family, come, the coffee is always on!
Mucho gracias to you Max and Kathy, you have made a very important dream come true. “When we save a life… we are forever bound to that life!” The children of Casa de Paz along with my three sons and their wives and I say a deep and heartfelt Gracias!
